Companies Act 2006
The Companies Act 2006 is the culmination of an 8-year review of company law, which aims to provide a simple, efficient and cost effective framework for British business.
The Act is the largest ever Act of Parliament, comprising 1300 sections and 16 schedules.
About a third of the Act comprises of policy and other changes to existing companies' legislation, the rest being merely a restatement of the current provisions in plain English.
Some provisions of the Act are already in force, some provisions come into force on 1 October 2008 and the remainder of the Act comes into force on 1 October 2009.
