Wills
It is important to make sure you have a valid Will so that, after your death, those who you care about will be provided for as you would wish. Without a Will, the "laws of intestacy" will apply to your estate and this can mean:
- Your spouse and children receive assets on terms you don't like
- You fail to appoint guardians for your children
- Non-blood relatives, friends or cohabiting partners are excluded
- Tax liabilities and administration expenses are greatly increased
- Your estate is administered by someone you wouldn't have chosen
Berryman's friendly and approachable team can help you draw up a Will and will also talk you through ways of minimising inheritance tax.
It is also important to update your Will regularly to take account of changes in your personal or financial circumstances.
Sharia Law Will service
As well as our standard Will service, Berryman are one of only a few law firms in Nottingham and the East Midlands region, who are able to offer a Wills service that complies with both Sharia and UK Law.
Since UK law does not recognise Islamic marriages or divorces, an Islamic Will is often the only way Muslim spouses and their dependents can be guaranteed shares of an estate to which they are entitled under Sharia.
Our team of Wills and Probate specialists have an expert understanding of this specialised area of Sharia Law, allowing us to deliver tailored advice, to Muslims, to ensure that they meet their religious obligations, with an Islamic Will.
We also always ensure all the advice we give our clients is relevant and delivered with a high degree of understanding and empathy.
